Dairy

Water has been called the forgotten nutrient for many years. However, with more attention than ever on clean water and water availability, how clean is your water?

Benefits of clean water include:

  • Less mastitis and somatic cell count issues
  • Better bactoscan control
  • More regular drinking leading to better rumination
  • Cleaner troughs – less labour needed
  • Lower disease risk – Salmonella, Cryptospodiosis, Bovine Tuberculosis
  • Improved parlour and bulk tank cleaning

We used to scrub our troughs every day, now with FarmWater, we just tip them once a week as they are already clean

Beef

The benefits of clean water are incredibly important in the beef sector, in particular in calf rearing setups. Calves are essentially monogastrics, so are incredibly susceptible to pathogens in water. Milk replacer is 85% water once reconstituted – if calves are drinking 8 litres a day, that is nearly 7 litres of potentially contaminated water they are consuming.

Risks of contaminated water:

  • Increased scour – E.coli, Salmonella, Cryptosporidiosis
  • Reduced performance – Gut challenges
  • Biofilm build-up in milk feeding equipment and drinkers
  • Reduced drinking – both milk and water
  • Longer time on unit
